About the Botanica Gardens
The Botanica Gardens in Wichita has one main goal: to generate enthusiasm in the community for horticulture through artistic and educational experiences. Since its opening in 1987, Botanica has expanded to add over thirty themed exhibits and gardens. Located on over eighteen acres of garden, this stunning area highlights over four thousand species of plant life. In addition, over fifty sculptures, works of art, streams, fountains, and waterfalls have been added over the years to enhance the garden’s natural beauty. Botanica Gardens in Wichita has made it a mission to educate the community and curate fun events and activities for all families to enjoy.
Activities For The Kids
Outside of the breathtaking gardens and exhibits on the Botanica property, there are so many things for you and your kids to do. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through the summer, drop in at the Conservation Craft Barn for fun activities. This event is a kid-focused upcycling class that features a brand project every week you visit. A team member at Botanica will lead your kids in using their very own everyday trash and turning it into a craft. Throughout the weeks, your child can make a wind chime, race cars, toy boats, instruments, and much more! In addition, you and your family can get up close and personal with nature on the Washed Ashore Sculpture Hunt. From now through the fall, complete the activity challenges with your kids by downloading the app and submitting your images on social media.
Family Events
I absolutely love Botanica Gardens in Wichita’s family orientation, which is clearly at the forefront. Botanica is home to multiple events during every season for all different types of families. This summer, bring the whole family to Summer Buzz. Celebrate butterflies and bees, and learn about their critical roles in our environment. Participate in arts and crafts, hands-on education, and family games all day. Then, visit the Butterfly Hatchery, where your children can hold and interact with caterpillars. They will learn about these fuzzy creatures and how they turn into butterflies. You can also get involved in some other fun events happening during this event! These events include yard games, face painting, obstacle courses, and even a trip to the honey tasting station.
